Following multiple episodes of suspense, plots and backstabbing, Celebrity Traitors concludes with a thrilling finale
Warning: spoilers ahead - This article reveals details from Celebrity Traitors conclusion
Throughout the season, viewers witnessed eliminations, betrayals, intense glares, and a memorable moment that cut through the overwhelming suspense.
Yet on the final evening, the ultimate victor of the inaugural Celebrity Traitors emerged triumphant.
Out of 19 contestants, just a handful remained: Traitors and loyal players facing off for the winnings.
Before long, the competition tightened to only three contenders: the remaining contestants.
In the end, funny man Alan Carr was crowned the champion, in a surprising outcome that broke the internet and left him emotional.
"It's been tearing me apart, I'm so sorry," he declared, admitting to the other players that he was actually one of the deceivers. "I feel terrible about this."
"You played amazingly," they comforted him. "Everything's fine."
Social media quickly erupted with this development. "Most awful traitor ever being the most effective player," commented a viewer.
"It couldn't have been a more iconic ending," wrote another, while someone else called it "the television highlight of the year."
The organization he selected, Neuroblastoma UK, gets to keep all the prize money, with the total amount amounting to eighty-seven thousand five hundred pounds.
Alan Carr's transformation from giggle liability to cold-hearted killer was among the most memorable aspects of the season.
But his win still left the nation in shock, according to industry observers.
"The thought of him, of all people, pulling off a masterclass in deceit felt about as likely as him maintaining composure through his comedy routines."
During follow-up conversations, the other contestants summed up the reasons nobody had truly doubted him.
"Alan could have come down to the morning meal in a green cloak and I still wouldn't have thought he was deceiving us. His humor distracted me," one participant said.
"The majority didn't vote for him because how can you vote for a person so charming?" asked a different contestant.
The winner stated he had "thoroughly enjoyed" his time on the program.
"I'd like to do it again... I doubt it would work a second time!"
The final installment was lengthened to over an hour on television. There was an unusual opening than usual, as every celebrity knew who'd make it at the breakfast table.
Viewers heard some very uplifting, and very un-Traitors-esque music, as the episode revisited key scenes from each of the finalists' time in the castle.
As ever, the comedian provided some of the most memorable lines.
"Let's face it, I started this game as something of an anxious mess. I've thrown some really good friends under the bus, I've eliminated national treasures openly. I'm clearly a better liar and player than I believed."
Meanwhile, another contestant commented that reaching the conclusion was "significantly more pressure than competing with England", while another said he was "totally surprised" to have lasted this long.
In the beginning in the episode, various contestants appeared to be attempting to become the new style icon of the castle, replacing an earlier departed style leader.
Carr emerged at the morning meal resembling a 1950s US chat show host in a checked maroon suit, before changing into a bejewelled white suit.
However, he got out-jacketted by another contestant's maroon velvet tuxedo. What a look.
Following this was the challenge, with the final players getting on board a locomotive called - naturally - The Deceivers' Railway.
This task saw them ripping up portraits of eliminated players. Spare a thought for one participant who was hit in the head multiple times by the cover of a substantial container.
Before long, it was time for the elimination discussion.
Two traitors did a pinky promise beforehand, vowing to stick together. "We've come a long way, I won't betray him," said a player, while their partner simply laughed.
However, one did stick to their agreement. But, managing to stay unnoticed for the majority of the competition, the other still got the most votes.
The last deceiver appeared he was in significant distress to be the final deceiver remaining. "Being alone, I feel terrified," he said. "I'm unpredictable, without direction."
Online platforms and onlookers were equally disappointed.
"I hoped against that player to be eliminated. An endearing deceiver," commented an observer.
"You will forever be remembered in the show's legacy," wrote a different viewer.
However, there remained little opportunity to dwell on their elimination. Soon, they were at the endgame - this being the moment everyone anticipated.
The last players gathered around the ceremonial fire. And the alliance broke down, precisely when it was most crucial, in an absolutely shocking development.
One contestant was eliminated in dramatic fashion - following a surprising decision from their partner, who betrayed them.
"This pains me to be stabbed in the back at the final moment like that," remarked the ousted contestant. Later, we learned that when they message, the betrayed player calls their former ally by a betrayer's name.
Ultimately, just three players were still competing: the final trio.
One player, looking incredibly smug, chose to conclude the competition. The same decision was made by another, and it all came down to the third, who did the same - which meant that the deceiver was the winner.
According to commentators, the scene where the other players consoled the champion was "beautiful TV". "I predict it will be in the running for memorable moment at next year's awards," they said.
Fortunately, the champion quickly regained composure from his bout of tears, and was able to enjoy his victory.
"Such an emotional journey. I thought I was terrible at deception, my expressions gave me away and now I stand the champion," the winner said.
And he even joked about the memorable elimination - his close ally in an early episode - by leaning toward the host in the final scene and making contact.
"There's something on your face," he said, with his trademark giggle.
The last few weeks of celebrity gossiping, scheming and sometimes surprising incidents may seem like a bizarre fantasy. Yet it actually occur. It will be remembered fondly.
