Mario's Galactic Adventure Teaser Debuts, Introducing Fresh Faces Rosalina & Bowser Jr. Voice Cast
The collaboration between Nintendo and Illumination unveiled the initial complete preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie this Wednesday. The reveal happened in a special Nintendo Direct that highlighted the upcoming animated film.
Following up on the successful 2023 release The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this latest chapter will transport Mario to the distant reaches of the cosmos. There, he will encounter a different royal figure and a powerful new opponent in Bowser Jr., the heir to Bowser's throne.
An Interstellar Journey Inspired by Iconic Releases
In the vein of the Wii console classics that provide its foundation, Mario will depart from the well-known surroundings of the Mushroom Kingdom to explore outer space. Throughout his extensive trek, he will encounter once more some recognizable characters, such as the Luma, a popular character from the first movie.
However, it seems Mario and his brother Luigi will battle a different foe in the form of Bowser's irate young son, who reportedly wields metal-based powers. Interestingly, the preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not solely focused on Galaxy-inspired imagery; it also features references to additional popular titles like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
Star-Studded Voice Cast Returns and Expands
The film will feature once again of the primary vocal talent, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
New additions to the ensemble for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will portray Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to embody Bowser Jr. It was announced by Chris Meledandri, the chief executive of Illumination.
A Big Year for Mario
The new Mario movie is scheduled to arrive around the time of the 40-year celebration of the original Super Mario Bros. game. Apart from the cinematic release, 2026 looks set to be a important time for Mario and his companions.
Nintendo confirmed three new games publicly declared for that year, featuring Mario Tennis Fever, a release on Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a new Yoshi platformer titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
Release Date Confirmed
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is planned for launch on April 3, 2026.
