Marnus Labuschagne Left Out from Australian One-Day International Squad Versus Team India
Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped from the three-game ODI series against India, with high-performing Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw earning a surprise selection.
Recent Form Result in Omission
The right-hander was left out from the ODI squad after being dismissed for one in each of his two innings during the recent series against South Africa in August. He has a best innings of forty-seven in his last 10 ODI innings.
Labuschagne has featured in 68 one-day internationals and accumulated 1,871 ODI runs at an average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now focus on earning a Test team comeback in time for the Ashes beginning in Perth on November 21.
Renshaw's Return and Team Updates
Labuschagne has shown signs of a return to form with 160 for Queensland in the domestic first-class competition this week, while Renshaw made a hundred for the Bulls in the identical match against Tasmania.
The left-hander may to make his white-ball international debut in the forthcoming series against India after previously being selected in an ODI squad in 2022.
Renshaw has played 14 Test matches with the most recent appearance in India in 2023 but is also aiming for a Test return as Australia search for a fix to their batting top-order problems.
Bowling Additions and Fitness Updates
Fast bowler Mitchell Starc returns for the ODI series against India after having time off since performing well for Australia in the whitewash of West Indies in July.
BBL performer Mitch Owen could make his ODI debut after sustaining a head injury in the lead up to Australia’s previous 50-over series against South Africa.
Skipper Pat Cummins continues to be absent as he works to regain fitness from a back injury in time to captain Australia in the first Ashes Test in November.
Team Announcement Approach and Fixtures
Australia have named a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the upcoming Ashes series, although Glenn Maxwell will sit out the five-match series due to a wrist injury sustained in New Zealand.
Mitch Marsh will skipper both the ODI and T20 sides after smashing a century in the last match against New Zealand to secure a 2-0 series win last week.
“We have named a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be some management through the back end of the series as players get ready for the cricket season through domestic first-class matches,” Australia chair of selectors George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an crucial phase in the build towards the T20 World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously prepare certain individuals for the Test matches ahead.”
Australia’s three-match ODI series against India commences on October 19 in Perth, before the opponents play five T20s from October 29.
