NFL Roundup: Broncos Narrowly Beat Hapless Jets in Defensive Battle
During a low-scoring contest this weekend, the Broncos managed to secure a 13-11 victory over the winless New York Jets. Quarterback Bo Nix connected on a first-quarter touchdown pass and kicker Wil Lutz kicked the game-winning go-ahead field goal to secure the hard-fought win.
Defensive Display Wins Game
Despite registering nine sacks against Jets QB Justin Fields, the Broncos were behind 11-10 following giving up a two-point play in the second half. Remarkably, the Jets managed just 82 offensive yards during the contest.
The Denver quarterback, who completed 19 of 30 passes for 174 yards, led a decisive 12-play, 65-yard drive that culminated in Lutz's short field goal with approximately five minutes remaining.
Historic Difficulties for Jets Attack
In spite of their dismal offensive display, the Jets still had possession with a opportunity to score a potential victory. But Fields was sacked on fourth down from the Denver 44 when coach Aaron Glenn opted to go for it rather than sending out specialist Nick Folk for a long field-goal attempt.
Fields had difficulties all game, connecting on just 9 of 17 attempts for 45 yards. The Jets finished with minus-10 passing yards, the lowest in any contest since 1998.
"Our passing game was completely absent," the coach commented following the game.
